Brisbane City Council is investigating the demolition
of a Racecourse Rd building after suggestions it would be
protected.
In June City North News reported that the
Hamilton Terraces building, near the corner of Kingsford
Smith Drive, had been earmarked for development by owner James
Varitimos despite planning chair Amanda Cooper saying council was
“moving to protect” the building.Last week all but the facade was
pulled down by workers who said the dilapidated building was
falling down “brick by brick”, supporting claims by Mr Varitimos
that the building was structurally unsound.
Hamilton ward Councillor David McLachlan said the building was
not in a Demolition Control Precinct (DCP) but that “issues
arising from its demolition are being investigated.”
